District 9 is an outright entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable movie. It delivers entertaining and solid scenes, which glues eyes to screen. You will simply not find any flaws in the film.
Keeping all the exaggeration aside, District 9 is a great movie. It has used technical prowess and imagination in equivalent amount. Story starts as documentary, which brings the viewers little up-to speed about situation involving the aliens with the mystifying back-stories, which are never explained fully. Ship arrived two decades before. It simply floated in South Africa over Johannesburg. The contact was made finally and aliens started coming to surface. Being unaware of what needs to be done, government of South African officiated the MNU (an agency) to carry on and deal with the problem.
Aliens are called as Prawns for their appearance. They very much look like the prawns. These prawns are keeping apart from general population. They stay in a place called District 9. They spend all the hours of day in these shanty slums, eating cat food cans and simply being exploited by the Nigerian gangsters. At start of the movie, it has been fixed on that prawns need to be relocated to District 10. After things start to get exciting, the movie takes its own viewpoint, while retaining aesthetics of documentary genre.
The different footage bits starting from security cameras to news reports enhance things. FX of prawns blends seamlessly with environments and the actors have reacted pretty well. The action is inventive and intense. The film has a great attention to detail. There is great information on every character and all kinds of nerdy sci-fi geek things were shown in the movie. It is a great movie to watch and you will really like watching it.
The movie juggles quite well with director’s confidence. The director very much well knows what he actually wants for story, which he wants to put in the picture. Peter Jackson did quite well in allowing Blomkamp free control with the movie. It seems as if it costs ten times whatever the low budget is. Passion and creativity clearly take this film far away and experience radiates off screen directly to audience.
Everything in this movie is ludicrously awesome. It has simply more than enough to please the drolling fan boys and hard-core sci-fi geeks and the casual viewers who are looking for roller coaster ride. It is the kind of film, which is not made quite frequently nowadays.
